The current Editor of the Southern Economic Journal®, Laura Razzolini, will be stepping down after her current term in 3 years. The new Editor is expected to take office on January 1, 2020, and will assume full responsibility of the SEJ beginning August 1, 2020.
The Southern Economic Association® has established a search committee to recommend a new Editor (or Editorial Team) to the Executive Committee when they meet in November 2019. The Committee is comprised of Peter Boettke (chair), James Alm, Cary Deck, and Jon Hamilton.
The Search Committee invites inquiries and expressions of interest from individuals or teams, and is open to various different arrangements, including a single Editor, an Editor with Assistant Editors, or two or more joint Editors. The term of the Editor is five years, with the expectation of renewal for another five-year term on the mutual agreement of the Editor(s) and the Executive Committee. The Editor is a non-voting member of the Executive Committee of the Association and is expected to attend both the November and March or April meetings and present a report on the SEJ. There is a stipend from SEA to cover the travel costs, within reason.
At this time, the Search Committee encourages, by January 31, 2018, informal nominations or expressions of interest.
We will follow up with a shortlist and encourage formal submissions by November 1, 2018. These would include a full CV, a statement to motivate editorial strengths and vision to be brought to the office, and a clear expression of institutional support, such as funds for an editorial assistant, travel to other conferences, or course releases. Resources funded by the Southern Economic Association® are provided to insure the successful operation of the Journal.
