The 2024 ASHE Academic Achievement Award recipient is Dr. Susan Pozo, Professor of Economics at Western Michigan University.
The biennial ASHE Academic Achievement Award recognizes outstanding scholarship. Dr. Pozo has written extensively in a variety of topics that include immigration policy, undocumented migration, the determinants and economic impacts of worker’s remittances, the returns to international human capital, and international finance. She has authored/coauthored over 80 refereed journal articles and book chapters, and has contributed articles for ASHE’s Hispanic Economic Outlookand CSMGEP’s The Minority Report. Her research has received funding from multiple organizations, including the United Nations, the Inter-American Development Bank, the National Institutes of Health, the Fulbright Foundation and the Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) Foundation. She was the winner of the 2018 Western Michigan University’s Distinguished Faculty Scholar award and the 2012-2013 Outstanding Achievement in Research and Creativity award.
Dr. Pozo is a research fellow at the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA), former director of Global and International Studies at Western Michigan University, a former Fulbright Research Scholar, and former president of the American Society of Hispanic Economists. Dr. Pozo holds a Ph.D. in economics from Michigan State University and an A.B. in foreign area studies—Latin America from Barnard College.
