2023 ASHE Dissertation Award recipient

Rene Armando Crespin

On behalf of the American Society of Hispanic Economists, congratulations to the 2023 ASHE Annual Dissertation Award Recipient Dr. Rene Armando Crespin!

Rene graduated with a Ph.D. in Economics from Cornell University in 2022 and is now a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Economics at Michigan State University. He has been supported by both National Science Foundation and National Academy of Education fellowships, and a chapter from his dissertation recently won an award from the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association. His research focus is at the intersection of education, public, and labor economics. He has developed a research portfolio that examines levers that lessen or exacerbate inequality, specifically in terms of schools, housing, and neighborhoods. In addition to his work, Rene has demonstrated a commitment to service through mentorship and advocacy for representation in the economics profession. Rene is a product of the AEA Summer Program where he later served as a Teaching Fellow. He received his Ph.D. in Policy Analysis and Management (Economics-focus) from Cornell University, an M.S. in Applied Statistics from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, and a B.A in Economics from the University of Chicago. ASHE is very pleased to recognize him as the winner of the 2023 Annual Dissertation Award.

You can learn more about Rene here.

The award will be formally conferred at the ASHE Board Meeting on Friday, January 5, 2024. Join us to congratulate him!
