The Economics Department at Davidson College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning July 1, 2024. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to and the potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate economics to a diverse undergraduate population.
We seek applicants for a position in which they will be expected to teach our required Statistics and Econometrics courses. The annual teaching load is five courses (four in the first year), and our new colleague will annually teach two core quantitative courses (Statistics and/or Econometrics), other core courses, and elective courses. Our ideal candidates will have demonstrated a facility for using quantitative methods as key components of their economic analysis as well as the potential for effectively explaining quantitative tools to undergraduates taking their first empirical course. We seek candidates from all fields of economics who would expand our curricular offerings and expand our faculty’s expertise in quantitative methods and incorporate these methods into their teaching and mentoring. All candidates for this position must have completed their Ph.D. in Economics or related Economics Ph.D.s by June 30th, 2024.
We also seek candidates who demonstrate the potential for creating learning opportunities for our students to explore issues of justice, equality, and community as articulated in the College’s graduation requirements (https://www.davidson.edu/offices-and-services/registrar/graduation-requirements).
The successful candidate will demonstrate both a currently active, promising research program and the potential to develop an active, promising scholarship program that includes undergraduates as research assistants and collaborators. To support the faculty’s teaching and scholarship, the College provides start-up funds, has internal funding sources to support research and teaching (https://www.davidson.edu/academics/research/faculty-funding-opportunities), and assists faculty efforts to secure external funding for research and teaching support (https://www.davidson.edu/offices-and-services/sponsored-programs).
Application materials will be submitted through employment.davidson.edu by November 22, 2023. To apply, please provide the following six elements: 1) a cover letter that includes a description of the candidate’s approach to inclusive pedagogy and diversity in the classroom, 2) CV with names and contact information of references included within, 3) a statement describing the candidate’s approach to and/or experience with teaching, 4) a statement describing the candidate’s current and proposed future research program, 5) a job market paper, and 6) an unofficial graduate school transcript. We will solicit letters of reference only for candidates whom we choose to interview. Inquiries should be directed to Dr. Mark C. Foley, Economics Department Chair ([email protected]).
