Letter from President Salvador Contreras

Dr. Salvador Contreras
University of Texas Rio Grande Valley

January 2, 2025

I am deeply honored by the trust the American Society of Hispanic Economists’ membership has placed in me to lead the organization in 2025. It is a privilege to serve an organization that has profoundly impacted the careers and lives of countless economists, including my own. I am mindful of and grateful for the many individuals whose dedication, vision, and leadership have shaped ASHE into the organization it is today.

I would like to recognize the outgoing past president Dr. Alfonso Flores-Lagunes and President Dr. Francisca Antman for their patience and mentorship in helping me prepare for this role. ASHE relies on amazing individuals who promote our work and mission, helping deliver vital services that make a lasting impact on our members, profession, and society.

This year, the ASHE board will continue the work of updating our bylaws, growing our membership, strengthening our partnerships, and fulfilling our mission to promote the vitality of Hispanics in the economics profession, advance research on issues affecting our communities, and increase the ranks of Hispanic economists.

The work of ASHE belongs to all of us. I invite you to take an active role to help our organization thrive. Please feel free to reach out to me personally with any suggestions or plans, or if you’d like to take a more active role in our work. Thank you for your support, and I look forward to serving you as ASHE President.

To a successful and productive year ahead!

Best regards,

Salvador Contreras
President
