ASHE mourns the loss of Alberto Davila

Alberto Dávila Ph.D (1956-2025)

January 25, 2025

Dear ASHE Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we share with you the news of the passing of Alberto Dávila. Alberto may have left us, but his spirit and contributions will forever be reflected in our organization’s work. He was a founding member of ASHE, served as president, and was the long-standing secretary-treasurer. Alberto dedicated much of his life to advancing ASHE’s mission, earning recognition with both the ASHE Service Award and the ASHE Academic Achievement Award. A towering figure, he was selflessly committed to removing barriers and promoting the advancement of Hispanics in academia and the economics profession. Alberto was a wonderful person, colleague, mentor, and friend. His legacy will continue to live on in each of us and in ASHE.

Alberto’s family set up the “Dr. Alberto Dávila Endowed Scholarship” at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a gift to the endowed scholarship bearing his name. Gifts can be made online at https://www.give.utrgv.edu/alberto-davila

A link to Alberto’s obituary is here.

Best regards,
